ADP Examines the Gender Pay Gap Among Gen Z

ADP ranked No. 14 on The Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list in 2022.

ADP shared an infographic examining the gender pay gap, showing the challenges that women face in receiving equal pay and opportunities for employers to reduce these barriers.

Gen Z women experience a narrower pay gap than ever before. Gen Z women make 92% of what their male counterparts earn, but if the current trends persevere, Gen Z women will have earned only 75% of what their male counterparts have earned by the time they are 55. There’s still work to be done.

According to ADP, Gen Z women still make less than men because of glass ceilings and sticky floors. Forty percent of the gender pay gap is a result of glass ceilings or obstacles that prevent women from advancing their careers. The inability to apply for promotions due to caregiving responsibilities is one example of this.

Sixty percent of the gender pay gap is a result of sticky floors or disadvantages that women face from workplace bias. A hiring manager offering a lower salary to a woman based on gender instead of experience is one example.

Gen Z women are also more skeptical about having children due to challenges that working mothers face. Fifty percent of women take time off from work beyond maternity leave, creating a gap in experience with their male counterparts. Returning to work is also proven to be a difficult challenge for mothers and caregivers.

To help close the gender pay gap, ADP urges employers to offer mentorship programs, networking opportunities, flexibility to caregivers and benefit programs, as well as making equity a core value.
