In honor of Black History Month, Boeing Company is celebrating employees who have shaped the company, from its first Black production worker to its first Black Senior Technical Fellow.

In a LinkedIn post, the company spoke of Dorothy West Williams: “During #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating the contributions of such pioneers as Dorothy West Williams, who in 1942 was hired as Boeing’s first Black production worker. She was the first of many African American Rosies (Rosie the Riveter) during World War II who helped boost aircraft production at Boeing’s Plant 2 from 60 per month in 1942 to an astonishing 362 per month by 1944.”

The company added that its Black team members have been “pivotal” to the company’s “success and innovation for decades — making the company and the world a better place.”

On its “Celebrating Black History” page, Boeing says it focuses on “equity for all,” “empowering diverse viewpoints” and aims to “seek, speak and listen.”

The company also has highlighted Black employees currently working for the company who have made an impact, such as Dr. Nathan Brooks, who was Boeing’s first Black Technical Fellow, to Ted Colbert, Boeing Global Services CEO who was named Black Engineer of the Year for 2022.

Boeing said it is also “driving racial equity and social change.”

“We know that being a truly equitable, diverse and inclusive company requires a commitment not only to our team members but also to our communities across the globe.

“Through our collective actions and investments, we are building on Boeing’s long-standing commitment to supporting those in underserved and under-resourced communities — with a particular focus on education equality in the United States.”

Some of its key partnerships include the Institute on Civility, Chicago Urban League, UNCF and National Archives Foundation.
