Boeing Honors the Original Rosie the Riveters

The Boeing Company ranked No. 16 on The Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list in 2022.

The Boeing Company has honored 11 original Rosie the Riveters by sponsoring an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where they were celebrated for breaking down barriers during WWII.

“Rosies,” symbolized by the iconic “We can do it!” image, worked jobs traditionally done by men during WWII: building bombers, tanks and other weapons.

“Up until 1941, it was a man’s world. And they didn’t realize how capable women are,” said Mae Krier, who worked as a riveter for Boeing on the B-17 and B-29 lines in Seattle from 1943 to 1945. “It’s up to a woman if she wants a career raising a family or be an astronaut. We have that choice now.”

Krier recently helped advocate for the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal Act, collectively awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to the millions of women who helped build aircraft, motor vehicles, weapons and ammunition during WWII.

The Rosies toured the U.S. Capitol and visited the World War II Memorial.
