Kaiser Permanente has teamed up with Higher Ground Youth & Family Services to provide trauma-informed care, human trafficking prevention and mental health outreach to youth in Anaheim, California.
Higher Ground aims to support the community in troubled areas of Anaheim. Its mental health outreach programs are located at a park in the center of five gang territories, improving access to care.
Higher Ground also developed a family wellness center to provide direct mental health services to all family members. While helping uncover and heal generational mental health trauma, the center also serves as a workforce development site for marriage and family therapists and social work graduate candidates at local institutions.
Universities have also integrated Higher Ground’s training, education and outreach into their curriculums, helping support the mental health of young individuals in the area.
Kaiser Permanente was the first to fund initial adverse childhood experiences screenings for second and third-graders, with plans to expand to all youth.
