The announced retirement of McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson means the number of Black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies will drop by a third (from a year ago) when he steps down March 1.
Clarence Otis resigned as CEO of Darden Restaurants at the end of 2014. When Thompson retires on March 1, that will leave four Black CEOs, two of whom lead Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 companies—Kenneth C. Frazier at Merck & Co. (No. 14) and Roger W. Ferguson Jr. at TIAA-CREF (No. 36).
