To celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, The Cigna Group discussed health disparities the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community faces.
Social determinants of health (SDOH) disproportionately impact the AAPI community, leading to health inequities such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mental health conditions.
“There are so many links between mental health, depression and cardiovascular disease. In the U.S., the rate of anxiety and depression is higher in the South Asian population than the general population. It doesn’t matter which one is influencing the other, you need to address both if you have both in order to have optimal outcomes,” said Anil Sipahimalani, MD, Medical Director, Cigna Healthcare Total Health & Wellness.
