U.S. Soccer President Mispronounces Megan Rapinoe’s Name on TV

The United States Soccer Federation gave the woman’s national team one last reminder of how unimportant they are at the U.S. Women’s National Team Parade on July 10 in New York City. The president of the Federation, Carlos Cordeiro, mispronounced Megan Rapinoe’s name when she was being introduced and bringing out the winning trophy.

Instead of making a scene about the mistake, Rapinoe simply shrugged off the mistake made by Mr. Cordeiro. She went on to rile up the crowd and her teammates, by putting on her dancing shoes and cutting the rug to “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled, with the World Cup trophy in her hand.

It was a fitting way to end a tumultuous run to the title for Rapinoe and her teammates. Rapinoe, without a doubt, was the spotlight star, as she leads the World Cup tournament in goals, but she also handled serious issues off the field in a respectful manner.

The team has been in an ongoing lawsuit with its governing body to try to finally secure equal pay and working conditions. On top of that, the ladies have been dodging criticism from President Donald Trump, along with being questioned if the team celebrated a little too much for this historic win.

After winning the World Cup, Rapinoe said, “Everyone is kind of asking what’s next and what we want to come of all of this. It’s to stop having the conversation about equal pay and are we worth it and should we and the investment piece. What are we going to do about it?”

The numbers are on their side, the 2019 Women’s World Cup final got bigger U.S. TV ratings than the 2018 men’s final.
