Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will not be attending President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, he revealed on Friday.
“I can’t go to this inauguration because he continues to spew hatred, bigotry and prejudice, even after he said he was going to bring us all together, he was gonna unify but he’s not,” Gutierrez said in an interview on CNN’s “New Day.” “He continues to spew this kind of just hatred, and so I’m not gonna be there.”
At an Ohio rally on Thursday Trump said his government would “seek a truly inclusive society,” adding, “we condemn bigotry and hatred in all of its forms.” However, Gutierrez said, Trump’s divisive campaign began on a platform that was anything but inclusive.
