Cleveland Clinic’s success is driven by the leadership of CEO and President Dr. Delos M. “Toby” Cosgrove and Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion Le Joyce Naylor. Dr. Cosgrove co-chairs the hospital’s Executive Diversity Council and holds managers accountable for diversity progress.
Cleveland Clinic has two Physician Diversity Councilsthe Minority Physician Employee Resource Group and the Women’s Professional Staff Association (WPSA), which addresses the needs of female physicians and staff. The WPSA will focus this year on preparing women to be leaders in medicine and at Cleveland Clinicwomen currently represent 40 percent of the hospital’s board of governors, more than 34 percent of physicians, and 13 percent of department chairs.
The hospital also has a number of diversity pipeline programs, designed to engage talented Black, Latino, American Indian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander high-school and college students interested in careers in the healthcare sector. These include the Young Business Leaders Summer Internship Program, for junior- and senior-high-school students interested in business careers in healthcare, and the Aspiring Physicians and Research Scientists Conference, which focuses on science and innovation for pre-med undergraduate students.
