Mentorship: By the Numbers

January is National Mentoring Month, an observance celebrating the power and impact of mentorship. Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or knowledgeable individual, known as a mentor, provides guidance, support and advice to a less experienced person, known as a mentee.  

Mentorship can take various forms, including formal programs within companies or informal relationships between colleagues. A study by the Association for Talent Development said the top two benefits to organizations with formal mentoring programs were higher employee engagement and retention and the support for the growth of high-potential employees. 

Fair360’s Top 10 companies understand the benefits of mentorship and offer formal and informal mentoring programs. While all Top 10 companies measure mentoring success by overall participation, 90% look at employee engagement.
