A member of the Nebraska Board of Education is refusing to resign despite the board’s adopting a resolution on Wednesday asking him to step down.
In a statement read at a Wednesday’s board meeting, before the vote on the resolution, Pat McPherson reiterated that he is not a racist and blamed the controversy on “political interests” who opposed him in the last electionnamely, Democrats and the state teachers union. “They’ve further intimidated political leaders to ask for my resignation by suggesting that if they didn’t, they were racist themselves,” McPherson said.
