Hershey Helps Train Service Dogs to Assist People With Disabilities

The Hershey Company ranked No. 3 on the Fair360 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list in 2023.

 

The Hershey Company helps raise and train puppies from Susquehanna Service Dogs to prepare them for assisting children and adults with disabilities and working in an office environment.

In the last eight years, the company’s headquarters have helped raise and train seven puppies. Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) is a nonprofit based in Pennsylvania.

Hershey worked with the National Organization on Disability (NOD) to make the program a possibility, as well as the company’s Abilities First Business Resource Group, which advocates for people living with disabilities.

Training service dogs in an office provides exposure to a bustling work environment. It also helps employees understand more about disabilities and how service dogs can help, sparking a conversation around invisible disabilities like anxiety and depression.
