Marriott International CEO Anthony Capuano on Accelerating Goals to Diversify Leadership

In my 26 years at Marriott, I’ve been fortunate to travel the world and discover, experience and learn from diverse thinking and perspectives that have led to better and more innovative solutions to business challenges.

Marriott International would not be where we are today if our rich diversity that was made possible by inclusive opportunity had not always been a cornerstone of our TakeCare culture. I am proud of our momentum and continued focus in this area but I know there is more work to be done.

As a part of our long-standing commitment to inclusion and providing an opportunity for all and to drive successful business results, we have committed to accelerate our objectives to diversify our leadership.

Across the world, more than 44 percent of our executive leaders are women and, in the U.S., that number is 48 percent. A few years ago, we established an objective to achieve global gender parity for women in executive positions by 2025.

Today, I’m pleased to share that we are accelerating our efforts to achieve global gender parity by 2023 – two years sooner.

We are also establishing a new objective to increase the representation of people of color in executive positions in the United States from 20.5 percent to 25 percent by 2025. This is an acknowledgment of where we are and where we want to be – with a consistent focus on leadership that reflects the communities we serve and the associates in our workforce.

With these goals, we reaffirm our commitment to ensure inclusive opportunity and an inspiring employment experience for all. Everyone gains, personally and professionally, by working with a diverse team and together we create better solutions for our global business.

If you don’t work with us at Marriott, I encourage you to consider a career at www.careers.marriott.com. We would love to meet you.
