BASF has partnered with trinamiX GmbH, Net Your Problem and Grundéns to host sustainability events around Seattle. The events will raise awareness about the value of recycling used materials into new products, demonstrating how the circularity of plastics can play out at harbors in the Puget Sound area.
Fisherman can bring their old gear to be prepared for recycling, preventing items from clothing to buoys from entering the marine or terrestrial environments and landfill streams.
Volunteers will use technology from trinamiX to identify the plastic types of materials and sort them into different recycling groups. Grundéns will use processed nets as raw materials to create new products such as jackets and boots.
BASF is working to close the plastics loop by using recycled fishing gear in material applications such as furniture and automotive.
