Medtronic Employees Revitalize Schools in Mexico and the Dominican Republic

Medtronic ranked No. 2 on the Fair360 2023 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list.

Medtronic employees in Mexico and the Dominican Republic (DR) volunteered to revitalize three schools in three days.

The Medtronic Foundation partnered with Glasswing International to help engage manufacturing employees in the DR and Mexico and to support local communities.

Almost 200 volunteers came together to paint, plant trees, build bookshelves and fill them with reading materials. A majority of volunteers were manufacturing employees.

“Revitalizing schools is about more than beautification,” Medtronic wrote. “Studies show that a safe, healthy learning environment promotes attendance and helps students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.”

Glasswing International is an organization that addresses the root causes of poverty through education and health programs, empowering youth and communities.

“We empower people to have that agency in their own community to drive change,” said Mark Loyka, U.S. country director for Glasswing International. “They want to make change and have local knowledge, plus there is a real community pride when you have a school that not only looks good but has the resources for the students to thrive.”
