Raytheon Technologies Shares Progress Toward Sustainable Flight

Raytheon Technologies ranked No. 36 on the Fair360 2023 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list.

 

Raytheon Technologies shared its progress in supporting the aviation industry’s goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

To reach this goal, the company is:

  • Driving progress in hybrid electric propulsion through new demonstrators
  • Developing engines fueled by sustainable and alternative fuels
  • Using advanced materials and designs to make planes lighter
  • Leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize flight paths

Raytheon Technologies shared statistics to help make sustainable aviation possible. Two percent of global emissions come from the aviation industry, with 80% from long-range flights.

The company’s first-generation geared turbofan (GTF) engine increased fuel efficiency by 16% and reduced regulated emissions by 50%.

“Since the dawn of aviation, our industry has been working to improve efficiency every year, and now the challenge is to drive that pace even more aggressively,” said Juan de Bedout, Raytheon’s Vice President of Aerospace Technologies.
