UnitedHealth Group Releases 2022 Sustainability Report

UnitedHealth Group has released its 2022 Sustainability Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the company’s efforts to improve quality healthcare and positively impact society. 

UnitedHealth Group’s report is backed by the following priorities in sustainability efforts: 

  • Helping to build a modern, high-performing health system 
  • Healthy environment 
  • The company’s people and culture 
  • Responsible business practices 

“Our persistent commitment to sustainability serves as the foundation of our strategic growth priorities, designed to not just serve more people, but serve them better, more comprehensively and with higher-quality, more affordable care,” said Patricia L. Lewis, Chief Sustainability Officer at UnitedHealth Group. 

Here are highlights from the report: 

  • Launched a $100 million scholarship program to help build a diverse health workforce 
  • Provided 2.2 million for in-home health assessments to older adults, including 670,000 in low-income communities 
  • Women hold 40% of top management positions 
  • The number of employees who participated in employee resource groups (ERGs) jumped to 39,000, compared to 17,500 in 2021 
  • Committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard 
  • Reduced inbound paper by 24% 
  • The company’s supplier diversity program supported $569 million in employee wages 
  • Conducted its first Human Rights Impact Assessment
