US Bank’s Marcus Brown Addresses Wealth Disparities Among Black Americans

Marcus Brown is the Strategy Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at U.S. Bank. U.S. Bank ranked No. 17 on The Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list in 2022.

Marcus Brown, Strategy Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at U.S. Bank, is focused on addressing the racial wealth gap in the U.S.

“A Federal Reserve study showed that, on average, Black people have less than 15% as much wealth as White people,” Brown said. “We’re not able to fix systemic racism as a bank, but we can play a role in addressing that wealth disparity.”

Some of these ways, Brown said, include providing Black Americans with increased access to capital, including personal and business loans, and access to financial education and investment services.

U.S. Bank also helps narrow the racial wealth gap with programs like Access Commitment and Access Home.

Access Commitment aims to advance diverse leaders, increase business with diverse suppliers, improve assets for small businesses and invest in Black communities. Access Home aims to increase homeownership among Black Americans by hiring and training more Black mortgage loan officers.
