The Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth hosted a day-long event in India to discuss ways to accelerate inclusive growth and close the gender gap in Asia.
The company partnered with Airtel Payments Bank and Frontier Markets to launch She Leads Bharat: Udyam, which helps give women entrepreneurs in India better access to financial services.
The initiative aims to give 100,000 women-owned small business owners in rural areas access to resources, networks and tools via Frontier Markets’ Meri-Saheli platform.
“What we have learned at the Center for Inclusive Growth is that when it comes to lending, women don’t just pay it back, but also pay it forward to their communities and the country,” says Shamina Singh, founder and president of the center. “Doing well and doing good, by choice or by chance, not only makes sense for society, but it also makes good business sense.”
