From The Company

Walgreens Boots Alliance is focused on reimagining local healthcare and well-being for all by prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout the organization. The company’s DEI initiatives include increasing access to affordable, quality healthcare, partnering with community organizations to invest in cancer care and research, youth empowerment and hygiene poverty, and promoting a positive, safe and diverse workplace environment.

To measure its progress, Walgreens has set specific targets to achieve by certain fiscal years. For example, the company has already achieved its fiscal year 2024 goal of donating $5 million worth of flu shot vouchers and contributing more than $25 million to Susan G. Komen and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Walgreens has also made significant strides toward its healthy and inclusive workplace targets for fiscal year 2022, such as increasing the number of people of color in leadership roles by 2 percentage points year over year, with 60% attributed to Hispanic/Latino and Black/African American. The company also achieved its goal of increasing spend with Tier 1 diverse suppliers to $625 million from $521.5 million in fiscal year 2021.

In terms of promoting a sustainable marketplace, Walgreens has set fiscal year 2023 targets to source 100% of palm oil from Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified sources, with a goal of increasing the proportion that is physically certified by 5% each following year. The company’s fiscal year 2030 targets include achieving a 30% reduction in plastic packaging compared with its fiscal year 2020 baseline and ensuring that 100% of plastic packaging is reusable or recyclable by consumers, with an average recycled content of 30% across plastic packaging.
