People on the Move: Gwen Mizell, New Chief Sustainability & Diversity Officer at Ameren

St. Louis-based utility company Ameren Corporation has named Gwen Mizell to the newly created position of Chief Sustainability and Diversity Officer. She previously served as the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer, and her new role will expand her leadership, expertise and guidance over Ameren’s DEI and corporate philanthropy efforts. She will report directly to CEO Marty Lyons.

Mizell’s role as Chief Sustainability and Diversity Officer went into effect on March 1 after the announcement of Sharon Harvey Davis’ retirement on May 1. Davis is Ameren’s VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) and Chief Diversity Officer. She worked at the company for 20 years.

In a statement, Mizell said: “It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of Sharon, a great leader with a longstanding track record of achievement. And I look forward to continuing to sharpen and optimize Ameren’s focus on all facets of sustainability for the benefit of communities in Missouri and Illinois.”

About Mizell

Mizell has worked at Ameren for seven years. She’s been the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer since 2021 and VP of Sustainability and Innovation since 2019. She joined the company as Director of Diversity and Inclusion in 2015.

Mizell has a master’s degree in management and public policy analysis from Carnegie Mellon University. She has a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Mizell also completed certificate programs at the Harvard JFK School of Government and at Georgetown University.
