People on the Move: Maria Black, ADP’s New CEO

ADP (No. 14 on Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s 2022 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list) announced that Maria Black, current President of the company, will succeed Carlos Rodriguez as CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2023. She will also serve on the company’s Board of Directors in connection with her role.

Black has been ADP’s President since 2022 and has overseen sales, marketing and business operations. She joined the company in 1996 and has served in various roles such as President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing,  and President, Small Business Solutions and Human Resources Outsourcing. She has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and international affairs from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

After stepping down as CEO, Rodriguez will serve as Executive Chair of the Board. The current Board Chairman, John P. Jones, will take an Independent Lead Director role on the Board.

In a statement, Jones said Black’s appointment as CEO underscores ADP’s commitment to leadership and its strong succession plan.

“Maria has been at ADP for over two decades, is a proven leader and has held various executive leadership roles at the company. The board is thrilled and confident she will continue to build on ADP’s strong foundation and success going forward,” he said.
