In a world where nearly 10% of the U.S. population grapples with non-visible disabilities, it’s important to shed light on the experiences, challenges and opportunities these individuals face in their professional lives.

A non-visible disability may include hearing or vision impairments, chronic illnesses and mental health challenges. These disabilities can have a major impact on a person’s daily life, affecting their work.

In this session, experts from BASF (No. 23 on the Fair360 2023 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list) and EY (a Hall of Fame company) provided invaluable insights into non-visible disabilities.

Highlights From the Session

“I’m excited that we’re having this conversation. We have to normalize these discussions and have these discussions become more and more important. Especially in the workplace, but even just changing the perspective in society, as well. It is okay to talk about it. Let’s observe it, let’s recognize these changes in perception biases so that we can do something about it.” — Grace Dorfmeyer, BASF

“Some ways that we can challenge stereotypes is to remember that we are unique individuals, that nobody is the same when it comes to our workplace. We want that difference there. We want to make sure that people have a different thought process than ourselves. Take the time to learn your team, to have that conversation with them.” — Rachael Grossman, EY
